Ruth Ann White, 82, of Commerce passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017. A memorial service was Wednesday, April 12, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Commerce with Rev. Greg Neal officiating.
Coker-Mathews Funeral Home, Greenville, was in charge of arrangements.
Dr. White was born in Jamestown, Texas, on July 24, 1934, to Robert Herschel Moore and Minnie Ruth Howell. She married Thomas Ray White on June 15, 1957, in Van, Texas. She attended and received her bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. from East Texas State University.
She was a professor emeritus in the counseling department and served as vice president for Student Affairs. While a faculty member at her beloved university, she impacted many students through her teaching and mentorship.
She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Commerce and a member of P.E.O., Coterie Culture Club and played in several bridge groups. She had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel to new places and meet new people..
She is survived by her son, Bruce White and wife Julie of Frisco; daughter Anna Knutson and husband Bill of Commerce; grandchildren Ashley Boylan and husband Shawn, Chris White and wife Jocelyn, Kaitlyn White, Tommy Knutson, and Alex Knutson, and great-grandchildren Ella White, Ethan White and Cole Boylan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother Robert Moore.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ruth Ann White Scholarship Endowment at Texas A&M University-Commerce or the First United Methodist Church in Commerce.
