Margaret Ann King

1931 - 2022

Margaret Ann King (Hardesty) left this world September 21st 2022 at the age of 91.

From an early age Margaret lived a rich spiritual life grounded in her Catholic faith. At only 16, after convincing her reluctant parents, Margaret entered religious life as a novitiate with the Benedictine Sisters in Oklahoma and took her final vows when she was 21. During her time of service which spanned nearly 20 years she also earned a Master's Degree in Art from The University of Notre Dame.

After leaving the Sisterhood Margaret married William (Bill) King in 1967. She and Bill settled in Houston, Texas and were blessed with two beautiful children, Kenneth and Kathryn. In 1980 they moved to Commerce, Texas where they lived for thirty five years as vital members of the community. Margaret volunteered to teach literacy classes at the city library and worked for many years as a librarian at the university in Commerce where she had many friends.

Margaret cherished her friends and family and especially loved being a grandmother!

In 2021 she moved to Houston to be near her son, Kenneth, and his wife Ketria who are grateful they got to spend lots of time with her over the last year. Jigsaw puzzles and Milkshakes were favorite pastimes.

Margaret once wrote that she thought of the end of life as "The Great Surprise!" We who know and love her wish her well on her new journey!

Margaret is survived by her son Kenneth, his wife Ketria Scott, son-in-law Jeremy Robertson and grandsons Casey and Keagan Robertson and Ethan Scott.

A Memorial Service for Margaret will be held Saturday Oct. 29th at 11AM at Hope Presbyterian Church in Austin, TX.

In lieu of flowers please send donations in Margaret's name to the Alzheimer's/Dementia or Breast Cancer Research Organization of your choice in memory of Bill and Kathryn.
