Robert Glen Gilmartin, 86, of Commerce, Texas, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at his home in Commerce. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 23, at 2 p.m. at Commerce Funeral Home in Commerce.
Robert was born June 22, 1929, in Ft. Worth, Texas, the son of William Gilmartin and Glenys Worrall Gilmartin. After high school, he joined the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1951. Robert enjoyed a variety of interests during his life. He was a professional golfer, during which time he gave lessons to some quite notable people, among them Jack Benny and Steve Martin. He was also a jazz drummer and keyboard player. He had a band that played countless gigs in Dallas, as well as Los Angeles, Calif.
Robert is survived by his wife, Lynda, and his children, Eric Gilmartin, Christian Gilmartin, Ingrid Alexander and Jacob Lepiarz and wife Ashton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Glenys Gilmartin, and his granddaughter, Meghan Gilmartin.
