Dr. Patricia "Pat" Meyer passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017, at The Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, Texas.
Born Feb. 9, 1931, in Decatur, Ill., the daughter of Mildred and Judson Poundstone, Pat received her bachelor's degree from Illinois State University and her master's and doctorate degrees from Texas A&M-Commerce. Pat taught public school in Illinois and Texas, eventually teaching in the Early Childhood Education Program at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and co-founding the teacher resource center there. She loved her students and was dedicated to the mission of public education.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Richard C. Meyer, Provost and professor of art at Texas A&M-Kingsville in 1996, and a granddaughter, Kristen Cannon.
She leaves three children, Karen (Joseph) of Raleigh, N.C., Kevin of Raleigh, N.C. and Kim (Terry) of Tyler, Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pat was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she was active in alter guild, the Stephen's ministry and the senior group. She was also very active in and inspired by her membership in P.E.O. and the American Association of University Women.
There will be a private family memorial for Pat.
Stewart Family Funeral Home of Tyler is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 4620 S. Alameda, Corpus Christi, TX 78412.
