LEANDER — Nell Lanette Donovan (nee Holliday), 83, of Leander passed away Sept. 23, 2011.
A memorial service will be Oct. 1, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Leander.
Born and raised in Jamesville, N.C., she attended the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina where she received her bachelor of science degree. She also received her master of science in education from Drake University and special education certification from West Texas State University.
Nell taught dance and physical education at the University of Nebraska, Drake University, Southern Methodist University and Amarillo Junior College. She also taught special education in Denison, Greenville, Celeste and Cumby ISDs. In addition to serving as president of Texas State Teachers Association, she was active in the Northeast Hunt County Retired Teachers Association, Woman’s Culture Club and United Methodist Women while living in Commerce.
She had a love for playing golf and gathering with family to watch basketball. She enjoyed traveling with children and grandchildren, and some of her happiest moments included her trips to Ireland.
Nell was preceded in death by her loving husband, John C. “Jack” Donovan, her parents, Effie and Andrew Holliday, her brother, Andrew Holliday Jr. and granddaughter, Aster Donovan.
She is survived by her daughter Karen Dalchau and husband, Greg, of Austin, daughter Terri Brosius and husband, Danny, of Burleson; son, Jack Donovan Jr. and wife, Priscilla, of Leander; grandchildren, Amy Donovan and husband Chris Bryan, Robby Brosius and wife Christy, Gabriel Donovan, Raphael Donovan, Faith Donovan, Stephanie Dalchau and husband Jason, Corri Brosius, Ben Brosius; four great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Kathryn Little and Louise Willis; and her Sheltie, Princess.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to A-Med Hospice, her nurse Connie and her special caregiver, Simone Wright.
