Kristy was born in Paris, Texas, and was raised in Maypearl, Texas, and later moved to Sulphur Bluff, Texas. Kristy has been an educator, coach and official for more than 20 years in the Rio Grande Valley, more specifically at Raymondville High School, San Benito High School, and San Benito Idea Academy. Kristy was named 2015-2016 Coach Of The Year by the Rio Grande Valley Charter Schools. She was better known as "Coach Winnie."
Kristy was preceded in death by her father, Maury Winnie.
She is survived by her mother, Nelda Winnie; sister and brother-in-law Kim and Mark Bassham of Cooper, Texas; along with many nieces and nephews and an endless number of friends.
Educating and coaching kids was her passion. Coach Winnie was a strong believer in God, never giving up and walking in faith. She will forever live in spirit within all of our hearts and we will miss her.
