Kent Charles Cregg, 85, passed away March 18, 2012, of natural causes in Tomball, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Commerce with Rev. Mary Alice Lyman officiating. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Delta Funeral Home of Cooper.
The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 till service time Saturday.
Mr. Cregg was the son of the late Charles Elmo and Myrtle Patterson Cregg. He was born Feb. 1, 1927, in Enloe. He graduated from Enloe High School in 1944 and served in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war he graduated from Texas A&M University-Commerce and from Oklahoma City University in 1960 with a degree in geology.
On June 17, 1950, he married Mary Ann Allen in Cooper.
His career in the oil industry took him to Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Louisiana. After his retirement from Getty-Texaco Oil Company in New Orleans in 1985, he made his home in Commerce, together with his loving wife, Mary, who passed away Feb. 16, 2003. While in Commerce, Kent was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and the Alumni Association of Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Surviving are his two sons, Allen Kent and wife Leesa Suddath Cregg of Houston and Jeffrey Charles and wife Tammy Richardson Cregg of Houston, and four grandchildren, James Allen and David Robert Cregg and Claire Alexandra and Kerry Elise Cregg of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a sister, Betty Zoe Cregg Baker.
