John's Story

John Erwin Patton entered this life Dec. 9, 1939, in Itasca, Texas, born to John Frank and Loy Verdean (Mathis) Patton. John went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 13, 2016, in Tishomingo, Okla., at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 4 days. 
John was born and raised in Hill County, Texas, where he graduated from Itasca High School. He was saved and baptized at Central Baptist Church in Itasca. He later moved to Stephenville, Texas, and received his bachelor of science degree from Tarleton State University. He also married Margaret, the love of his life, in Stephenville on March 23, 1963. They were happily married until her death on May 19, 2005. John and Margaret had two daughters, Cathy Harmon and Laura Patton, both of the home. He also had a stepdaughter, Charlotte Robertson of Dublin, Texas, and a stepson, Michael Lingle, who preceded him in death. 
John was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack Richard Patton and Estell Allen Patton; and a sister, Patsy Dean Patton.
John and Margaret came to Tishomingo in 1972 where he spent 10 years teaching accounting and business classes at Murray State College. During that time he completed his master’s degree in business at East Texas State University. He finished his career serving 16 years as financial aid director at Texas A&M University in Commerce. John retained his membership at First Baptist Church in Tishomingo and was a member of the Free Masons Lodge in Tishomingo.
John is survived by his three daughters, Cathy, Laura, and Charlotte; a sister, Peggy Dingler of Ft. Worth; two brothers, Jerry Patton of Arlington, and James Patton of Ft. Worth; six grandsons; two great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at First Baptist Church, Tishomingo, Okla., with Reverend Scott Battice officiating. Burial will follow at Indian Creek Cemetery in Stephenville Cemetery,  Stephenville, Texas, at a later date.
Honorary pallbearers are John Owens, Blaine Robertson, Johnny Etheridge, John Edwards, Rodney Davis, Weldon “Goob” Ray, and Roy Seal.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, Madill, Okla.
