Joe Hawkins, 91, of Plano (formerly of Commerce) passed away Jan. 25, 2012, in Plano.
A graveside service was held at 3 p.m., Jan. 28, at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville, with Rev. Johnnie Henderson officiating. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Born March 10, 1920, in Commerce, Joe was the son of J.W. and Ora Patrick Hawkins. On July 30, 1939, he married Ferle George. After more than 30 years of service, he retired from the Cotton Belt Railroad as an engineer. He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church in Commerce where he served as a deacon for over 50 years. He was also a Mason for more than 50 years.
Survivors include his wife of Plano; daughters Dian Rainbolt of Plano and Dosha King and husband Jerry of Cedar Creek Lake; grandsons Rocky Rainbolt and wife, Chris of Plano and Clint King and wife Haley of San Antonio; great-grandsons Alexander Joseph Rainbolt and Cruz Patrick King; and a niece and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elizabeth Sims and Kathryn Cain-Dearing, and brother Roy Hawkins.
The family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, 1401 Washington Street, Commerce, Texas 75428.
