Joe Leeman Duvall, 84, of Cooper passed away Monday, May 16, 2016. Memorial services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, in the Delta Funeral Home chapel. Military rites will be provided by the Hopkins County Military Coalition.
Joe was born May 20, 1931, in Wolfe City, Texas, to Joe and Lorene "Henry" Duvall. On July 22, 1970, he married Hassie Jean Skinner; she preceded him in death Aug. 4, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents and daughter Michelle Kuczora.
Joe is survived by three sons, Joe Dirk Duvall of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Robert Mark Duvall and Jimmy Scott Carson, both of Cooper, Texas; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and one brother, Arthur Duvall of Commerce, Texas.
After serving in the ROTC program and graduating with a bachelor of science degree from East Texas State Teachers College in 1953, he was drafted as a commissioned officer into the United States Air Force. Upon finishing his service duty in Japan, he returned to East Texas State College where he received his master of education in 1959. After a brief time as a football coach and teacher at both Allen, Texas, and Princeton, Texas, public schools, he was once again drafted into the US Air Force where he served during the Vietnam War. He remained in the US Air Force until retiring as a major in 1980.
