Text size

Glenna Mae Runnels, 94, of Commerce, passed away Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, in Commerce. She was born on April 6, 1923, in Cooper, the daughter of Marshall Wheeler and Nora Chapman Wheeler.
Visitation and funeral took place at Commerce Funeral Home on Tuesday.
Glenna grew up in Pecan Gap. On Aug. 28, 1943, when she was 20 years old, she married Jesse Runnels. The ceremony took place at the parsonage of the Church of Christ in Cooper. In the early 1980s, the family retired and built a house in Pecan Gap. It was then that they began attending the Church of Christ in Commerce.
Glenna was active in many activities in town. She enjoyed membership in the Pecan Gap Ladies Club, as was a fund raiser for the American Cancer Society. Glenna's ministry to the community was cooking and baking, and she often took her creations to those who needed to know they were remembered. She enjoyed spending time keeping her garden at her home. Glenna always looked nice, and wore beautiful clothing and jewelry.
Glenna is survived by her son, Jesse Runnels and wife, Robin; grandchildren, Alesha Runnels, Marsha Krotky and husband, Mark, Michelle Runnels, Kelli Shuhart and husband, Bill, Kristie Blas and husband, Paul, and Jarrett Willson and wife, Shelley; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Nora Wheeler, husband, Jesse Runnels and son, Michael Runnels.
Pallbearers were Jarrett Willson, Mark Krotky, Jack Cheney, Colt Nichols and Dillon Harred.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Glenna's honor to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org, or Church of Christ, Commerce, 1900 Culver Street, Commerce, Texas, 75428.
