A memorial service for George Ronald Ellis, 61, a student at Texas A&M University of Commerce where he was working toward his bachelor of science degree and was to graduate in June, was conducted at 2 p.m., Jan. 21, in the West Oaks Funeral Home chapel in Sulphur Springs with Dr. Ed Ellis officiating.
Mr. Ellis passed away Jan. 13, 2012, in his Honor Society dorm.
Mr. Ellis was born Aug. 3, 1950, in Sumter, S.C., the son of Edgar Heb Sr. and Grace (Collins) Ellis. An honor student, he was on the President’s List and the Dean’s List at both Texas A&M-Commerce and Paris Junior College. He served in the United States Army for six years and was discharged as a lieutenant. He was of the Episcopal faith. Mr. Ellis was also an international chef.
Survivors are his brothers, Dr. Ed Ellis and wife Charlotte of Columbia, S.C., and Melt Ellis of Sulphur Springs; sister Marca J. Hanna and husband Jerry of Sulphur Springs; and two daughters, Shannon and Kelly Ellis of Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, LaRoy Franklin Ellis; and two sisters, Marilyn Rose and Loretta Grace Ellis.
