Eleanor Claire Sandifer passed away peacefully on Dec. 20, 2017. She was born in Birmingham, Ala., on Feb. 19, 1922, to Robert Alburtus and Lilly Ann (Duffee) Smith.
Eleanor's twin siblings, Robert and Roberta, were born two years later on same date and all three loved to celebrate birthdays together.
She graduated from W.H. Adamson High School in Dallas in 1940. She married M.R. "Ray" Sandifer on Jan. 10, 1944. Together, they had one daughter, Janet.
Eleanor worked at Magnolia Oil in the Pegasus Building in Dallas and retired from Goodyear Tire Company. In retirement, she and Ray loved church, family and traveling. She was a lifetime member First Christian Church. Eleanor was active in her community and she loved her friends in the Delphian Club and Christian Womens Fellowship (CWF).
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, sister and the love of her life, Ray.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet and son-in-law, Jim Latham of Commerce; grandson, Ben Latham and wife, Janine of Plano; granddaughter, Sarah and husband, Bradly Staton of Commerce; four greatly loved great-grandchildren, Holly, Anastasia, Sam and Henry; devoted friend and caretaker, Mary Sartin; nurses, Marcie and Shannon; and many nieces, nephews and church family,
Eleanor's sweet soul was loved by all she met.
Service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 22, at the First Christian Church, Commerce.
A visitation will be held prior to the service at 10 a.m.
Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church, Commerce. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
