Doris Jean Oglesby Follis, wife, mother, sister, and teacher left this world a much better place. Her love of life and willingness to help and teach others will not be forgotten. Jean was one of six children raised by Lucille and Robert Oglesby.
Many of her childhood years were spent in Commerce. She was very active at Commerce High School twirling her baton ever so high as a majorette for the Tiger Band. She then pursued an advanced education, obtaining her B.S. and M.S. degrees from East Texas State Teachers College. She later married B.S. (Chuck) Follis of Cumby, Texas. This marriage produced a son, John Reagan, whom she absolutely adored.
Chuck and Jean then relocated their family to the Baytown area where they began and ended their careers. Jean's love of teaching won her many accolades over the years. Her students adored her. As she aged her neighbors related tales that she was the planner and helper for all. Her tales to her family kept you in stitches as she related her various activities and antics.
Jean will always be remembered as the sister who never missed sending a card or making that special telephone call to her brothers or sisters on their birthdays. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lucille; husband Chuck; sister Christine of Burkburnett, Texas; and brother Mike Oglesby of Commerce.
She leaves behind her son, John, of Baytown, Texas; two brothers, Robert Oglesby of Dallas and Joe Oglesby of Yukon, Okla.; and a sister, Ann Julian of Commerce.
"Jean, we will miss you."
