Charlotte's Story

Charlotte Chapin, 67, of Commerce passed away Nov. 30, 2010, at Hunt Regional Community Hospital in Commerce. Services were held at 2 p.m., Dec. 5, at the Church of  Christ in Commerce with David Gibson officiating. Interment followed at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce. 
Charlotte was born March 30, 1943, in Charlotte, N.C., to James Donald and Jo Evelyn Duncan Atkins. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from East Texas State University in Commerce. While living in Brownsville, she worked for more than 10 years for the Cameron County Organized Crime Task Force, and she taught typing classes in the evening. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Commerce.
Her survivors include her son, Eddie Jack Chapin Jr. of Commerce; two daughters, Amy Elizabeth Chapin Doster of Commerce and Carin Sue Chapin of Dallas; brother Jim Atkins of Dallas; sisters Cindy Atkins of Rockwall and Susan Carnes of Dallas; and two grandchildren, Evan Clay Chapin and Ethan David Doster of Commerce.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Hannah Munroe Chapin; and a grandson, Richy Iles who recently passed away at the age of 21 and was very close to his grandmother.
Mike Anderson, Joe Davis, Phil Nichols, Chub Lambert, Sam McCord and Sonny Moore will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kim Patrick Evans, Joel Shelton and David Gibson. 
The family request memorials be made to the Church of Christ, 1900 Culver Street, Commerce, Texas 75428 or the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2105 Luna Rd., Ste. 390, Carrollton, Texas 75006.
The family would like to thank the administration and staff of Oak Manor Nursing Home, Dr. Rick Selvaggi, and the nurses and staff of American Hospice especially Lorraine May, RN for the excellent care and devotion to their loved one during her long illness.
