Bob was born on Dec. 11, 1927, to Banner and Eva May Titus in Blackwell, Okla. and grew up in Burrton, Kan. He was married to Gerri Titus from May 25, 1953 until her death in 2016. In February 1946, he was drafted and assigned to the 314th A.S. Band, 7740 Special Services Battalion in Germany. He was discharged in March 1947.
He received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from William Jewell College in 1951; a Master of Science in Education from Indiana University majoring in Audiovisual Education in 1955, and a Doctorate in Education from Indiana University in 1964 in Audiovisual Communications. Bob was on the faculty and acting head of the Center of Educational Media and Technology at East Texas State University (Texas A&M-Commerce). He was a member or officer in numerous organizations including Texas Association for Educational Technology and Phi Delta Kappa. During his career, he made numerous presentations to conventions and organizations. He received awards for his work in media and technology and was published in Educational Resources & Techniques.
Bob and Gerri were long-time members of First Baptist Church in Commerce, Texas. They provided a home away from home for many international students from the early 1960s to 2012. In spring 1989, they traveled to China in Hefei, Anhei Province to teach.
He was very caring and content in all circumstances and lived a full and unselfish life of service to others. He had a quick wit and rich sense of humor. He was gentle, kind, and generous. He was known as an avid gardener, a teacher and mentor, and the best Daddy, Papa and Great Papa. He loved fully and well. He was longing to see his Lord and be reunited with his Bride.
Survivors include his son, Robbie W. Titus and wife, Delight, of Evansville, Ark.; daughter, Diane L. Smith and husband, Clifton, of Lubbock; grandchildren, Meagan Gilbert and husband, Brandon, of Wichita Falls, Barrett Smith of Atlanta, Ga., Tiffany Heatwole and husband, Eric, of Lubbock; and great-grandchildren, Breegan and Michael Gilbert, and Aiden and Addie Heatwole.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gerri; and a sister, Margaret Kaiser.
