Billie Francis George Ross, 90, died following a brief illness at her home in Galveston on June 25, 2013. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m., June 27, 2013, at Restlawn Cemetery in Sulphur Springs. She was buried beside her husband, H. Glenn Ross.
Billie was born in Commerce on Feb. 3, 1923, to Clark H. George and Mattie Self George. She worked for the Cotton Belt Railroad as a telegraph operator and station agent. She taught school in Canyon, Pasadena and in Houston.
Billie was married in 1956 to H. Glenn Ross (1929-2006) of Sulphur Springs. They made their home in Galveston and Houston where Glenn taught in the Business Department at the University of Houston.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents and her three older sisters, Thelma Nanney, Marie Moore and Edith Weddle.
Survivors include her nephews, Dr. John C. Weddle of Rockwall and Clark G. “Rusty” Moore of Garland and many great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her caregiver for many years and dear friend Jose Navarro.
